Capstone Project: Google Professional Project Management Certification

Project Overview

Sauce & Spoon was my capstone project for the Google Project Management course. I acted as Peta, the project manager, updating documentation for a successful launch. The scenario for my project was:

Sauce & Spoon is a small restaurant chain that wants to meet its annual growth and expansion goals. As one way to meet these goals, they’ve decided to launch a pilot project to test out the impact of installing new tabletop menu tablets. The new menu tablets will allow the restaurant to serve more guests in less time and will also provide valuable data that will help Sauce & Spoon meet its business goals.  (Click on the Sauce & Spoons logo over each artifact to view the document.)

During the project, I achieved the following:

  • Analyzed project documents and supporting materials to identify project requirements, evaluate stakeholders and problem-solve.
  • Completed a project charter and used it as a tool to align project scope and goals among stakeholders.
  • Added specificity to project goals to make them SMART and applied practical negotiation skills with stakeholders to prioritize project goals.
  • Built a project plan by examining project documentation, conducting online research, analyzing critical conversations to identify tasks and milestones, and then documenting and prioritizing them in a project plan.
  • Demonstrated effective communication techniques for making accurate time estimates for project tasks.
  • Defined and described quality management standards and evaluated against those standards to ensure that the project achieved the required quality.
  • Generated evaluation questions from survey questions and recognized how to share qualitative data effectively.
  • Learned strategies to facilitate a productive retrospective by encouraging participation, accountability, and positivity.
  • Learned how to communicate and escalate project impediments or major risks to stakeholders and demonstrated my impact through effective reporting strategies.

Projects

Capstone Project:

Sauce & Spoon Artifacts

Project Charter

Initiation Phase

Created project charter for Sauce & Spoon project.  This crucial document sets the stage for project success by providing a comprehensive overview of the project's purpose, scope, and key details. It was our foundational tool for effective project management, fostering clarity, accountability, and stakeholder engagement from the project's initiation.

Test Launch Findings

Created a presentation of the data received from customer surveys.  This useful information was referenced in the impact report and retrospective meeting in order to understand what went well, lessons learned and changes needed going forward.

Retrospective Review Meeting

Project Plan

Planning Phase

Created a detailed, organized Project Plan that outlined the specific steps, tasks, resources, and timelines required to achieve the objectives of the project. It served as a roadmap for the project team and stakeholders, providing a comprehensive overview of how the project will be executed, monitored, and controlled.   This fundamental tool offered a structured approach to project execution, monitoring, and control.

Coalition Email

Execution Phase

Created a coalition email to one of the team members that had high influence and connection to the stakeholders.  Email was a request for their help in building an alliance to persuade or stakeholders to narrow-down roll out to only the bar area in the three locations outlined in the proposal and project charter.

Stakeholder Analysis

Planning Phase

Created a detailed Stakeholder analysis which is a critical process in project management and organizational planning. By systematically identifying and understanding the needs, expectations, and influence of stakeholders, organizations can enhance communication, reduce risks, and increase the likelihood of project success. It is an essential tool for building and maintaining positive relationships with those who can significantly impact or be impacted by the outcomes of a project or initiative.

Impact Report

Closing Phase

Created an impact report to provide information on the effects and results of our project and initiatives. The report communicated the impact of the project, both in terms of its intended outcomes and unintended consequences, to various stakeholders including funders, partners, and the public.  Note the analysis on slide.
